Tips On Selling Your Vehicle
Neatness counts. Please don't use all caps, lots of "!!!", etc. We reserve the right to clean up titles. [Tip: Avoid using asterisks, plus signs, quotes, and other special characters in your item title. Our search feature may overlook words that contain these characters -- and that can make it harder for bidders to find your item.] You can use HTML to spice up your listing. If you?re not familiar with HTML, visit MBT?s HTML basics page or ask for help from the webmaster@mbtauction.com. You?ll be up to speed in no time! Or you can skip the technical bells and whistles this time around and enter a simple item description. Just type in the words you want to see. Don?t use quotes in your HTML, since this will break your code. You?ll have a chance to see how this looks before finalizing your listing. You can add links to additional photos, but enter your primary photo in the Picture URL section. If you want more than one photo for your item, insert its URL in the Description section in the following format: img src=http://www.myhost.com/mypicture.jpg(Of course, you should replace http://www.myhost.com/mypicture.jpg with your image URL, and include the < and > characters). Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) The vehicle identification number (VIN) is an extremely important piece of information for a potential buyer. The VIN can be used to consult public sources such as Carfax.com about the history of the vehicle (such as flood or collision damage). Failure to provide a VIN may suggest to the buyer that the car has problems that the seller is trying to hide. If you do not provide a VIN in your listing, you should explain why in your description. Many people will not bid on a car without this information. Since 1981, the US government requires that all over-the-road vehicles sold contain a 17-character vehicle identification number, or VIN. This information will be on your vehicle registration documents. Some limited edition vehicles, vehicles built outside of the US for sale outside of the US, and vehicles older than 1981 may not have a 17-character VIN. The VIN is imprinted on the dashboard of many cars. It can often be found on the inside of the driver side door. Check your Vehicle Title document to see if there are any problems with the Title. A clean title is one that does not contain designation or marks indicating any of the following types of problems: Salvage/Junk, Rebuilt/Reconstructed, Flood Damage, Damage Disclosure, Manufacturer Buyback (Lemon) Exceeds Mechanical Limits, Not Actual Miles. If you have further questions, ask your insurance company, your financing company (if you have a loan on the vehicle that has not been paid off), or run your own title check using a service such as Carfax.Number of Cylinders for a Passenger Vehicle Check your vehicle owner's manual for information about the number of cylinders in your vehicle, or ask your dealer or mechanic. Check your vehicle owner's manual for information about the number of cubic centimeters (cc) of your motorcycle's engine, or ask your dealer or mechanic. You should Select "Used" if the vehicle has been owned by you or another individual or by a business, even if it has low mileage or is from the current model year. Select "New" if you are a dealer or other sales agent of the manufacturer offering the vehicle for original sale. The easiest way to check if the vehicle has any of these options is to look for yourself. If you have any questions, check your owners manual or consult a dealer or mechanic who is familiar with the car. If you purchased a warranty when you bought the vehicle, or at a later date, you may be able to transfer it to a new owner. This is a very attractive enticement to bidders. Check the terms of your warranty or consult with your warranty provider to see if you may pass the warranty to the new owner when you sell the car. In general, items listed with photos get more bids and sell for higher prices than those that do not. This is especially true for vehicles. The shopping areas of MBTAucton Vehicles are designed to emphasize pictures of listed items. Take at least one good, clear picture to use in your listing. An escrow service acts as a trusted third party that ensures the safety of the transaction by working with the buyer and seller to secure payment of funds and delivery of the item. Vehicle escrow services may also help to manage the transfer of ownership. If you are unfamiliar with escrow services, we recommend that you select the "Will accept escrow, buyer pays" option. This selection may make the item more attractive to some buyers, particularly those who are new to buying a car online. If you wish to use escrow from a specific service provider, you should specify the details in your item description. Listings with pictures get more bids and sell for higher prices than those that do not. When you list in a vehicle category, you get the Gallery Item option for free. Use this entry field for your best picture, because this picture will be displayed on the listing pages as well as at the top of your item page. You may include additional images in your listing using HTML within the description field. A new part has never been used; a re-conditioned part is used but has been professionally cleaned and restored to operate like new; and a used part is used but not re-conditioned. An original or OEM part is made by the original manufacturer. An aftermarket part is made by another manufacturer. High performance or racing parts are made for the express purpose of improving the speed, power or performance of the vehicle. Standard parts are for general purpose on-road use.Note: Most international buyers expect to pay in U.S. Dollars, but you can mention currency requirements in your item description. Your auction will start at this price. Generally, it is the lowest price at which you are willing to sell. Setting the starting bid too high may discourage bidding! Setting a reserve price lets you start the bidding at a price lower than you would be willing to sell for. To use the reserve price option, set the real amount you are willing to accept for your item; this is your reserve price. Your reserve price is hidden from bidders, but your item's information will note whether the reserve price has been met yet. The Private Auction option specifies that the identity and email addresses of bidders are not visible on your auction page. Only the seller and the high-bidder will be notified of the auction results. Note: This option cannot be used for Dutch Auctions. Losing Information with the Back Button? If your Sell Your Item form loses all your information whenever you try to go back to the page using the "Back" button, don't worry -- this can be fixed. For Microsoft Internet Explorer Users: For Netscape users: Make sure that neither the memory cache nor the disk cache is set to
zero. We recommend that you set the memory cache to 1024 Kbytes and the
disk cache to 7680 Kbytes. To do this, type 1024 in the box for the memory
cache, and type 7680 in the disk cache. As a precautionary measure, clear
your memory and disk caches by pressing the buttons "Clear Memory Cache"
and "Clear Disk Cache." |
